As we age, our skin changes. We lose our facial fat stores, the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid stops (in our early 20s), and also beings to break down due to UV and free radical damage. Aging results in wrinkles and sagging skin, which can make us appear older than we feel.
Microneedling is a procedure that uses an electronic device with tiny needles that puncture your skin, creating controlled skin injury. These micro-injuries stimulate your body to produce new collagen and elastin. The new collagen and elastin rejuvenate your skin by filling in fine lines, and wrinkles resulting in an overall improvement in the texture and tightness of your skin.
What does micro-needling treat?
Dermapen can treat all Fitzpatrick skin types and can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, rosacea, scar tissue, acne, and acne scarring, stretch marks and enlarged pores.
Does micro-needling hurt?
This varies from person to person and the skin concern you are treating as needle treatment depths vary. For this reason, we have the option of using a topical local anesthetic.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on two things: a) the results you want to achieve and b) which part of the body the treatment is being performed on.
For wrinkles or stretch marks, depending on the severity, you may need 3 to 8 treatments to achieve optimal results. These treatments are 6-8 weeks apart to ensure the health and safety of your skin.
For pigmentation, you may need 3-4 treatments spaced 2 – 4 weeks apart.
For more detailed information on Microneedling and your specific skin concern please call the clinic for a consultation.
How long will the results last?
The activation and regeneration of collagen and elastin can continue for up to 2 years after the initial treatment. It is recommended to have a yearly top-up to maintain your results.
